Admissions in English
This page is intended for candidates who hold Polish citizenship (e.g. dual citizenship holders) and plan to apply for programmes in English.
Please note that detailed information in English is available on the websites of programmes you intend to apply to and in the OAS (IRK) system at irk.uj.edu.pl.
If you have questions, we advise contacting the programme office (contact details are also available in the OAS).
Information in English for foreigners is available on the dedicated website: welcome.uj.edu.pl.
Admission rules
Details about the expected content of the application and the particular admission rules for all programmes are available in the study programme card in the Online Application System (system IRK) at irk.uj.edu.pl. Please make sure you read it thoroughly.
The basis for calculating the final point score:
- Undergraduate programmes: grades or exam results on the high school leaving certificate or, depending on the country, other documents confirming eligibility to enter university in the country of issue. The method used for the points allocation to the Polish exam system varies depending on the country.
- Graduate programmes: each programme has its qualification criteria, possibly including an entrance exam.
Admission process step by step
Step 1: Create an OAS (IRK) account
To submit your application, you first need to create your OAS account at irk.uj.edu.pl.
As you create your account, please fill out the forms regarding your personal data and your education history. Make sure that you enter the correct email address and provide a working phone number as it helps us contact you.
Once you finish creating your account, you can proceed to the submission of your application.
Important: Candidates holding Polish citizenship, when applying for undergraduate programmes, should make sure to upload a copy of their exam results (together with a certified translation into English or Polish, if issued in another language) in the “Education” tab. Missing this step may result in receiving 0 points as your final score.
Step 2: Submit your application
Find your programme of interest in the OAS by browsing the “Offer” tab. On the right side of the screen, find a green button, “Sign up”. When you click on it, the system will check if you have filled out all the necessary forms, and if you haven’t, it will direct you to fill them out before proceeding.
Important: Application forms differ between programmes. In some application forms, you may need to upload additional documents supporting your application, such as a language certificate which may exempt you from taking the language verification interview or documents required for the points assessment. You can check what fields will be needed in the application form beforehand in the study programme card in the OAS (IRK).
Step 3: Pay the application fee
Your application will only be assessed if you pay the application fee in your account by the date specified in the schedule and when it is booked in the University account.
Paying using Przelewy24 makes for the fastest booking (within 15 minutes) but requires a small fee on your part. You can also pay the fee by a wire transfer or bank order. However, in such a case, please allow enough time for the booking of your fee, as it may take a few days or (rarely) weeks.
You can check the status of your application payment in the “Applications” tab in your account—if the status of the application is “paid”, that means that the correct amount has been booked in the University account.
Step 4: Pass the exam
The exam is not required for all programmes. Please consult the study programme card in the OAS (IRK) to check if you need to take an exam.
If the final result is calculated based on the exam or interview result—that means that you have to take the exam or interview for your application to be considered.
If you have a document confirming your English proficiency, you can upload it in the OAS upon submitting the application and earn an exemption from this exam. Otherwise, you will be asked to demonstrate your English skills during the interview. The expected level of English is B2 or higher. A list of documents confirming knowledge of English is available here on the website for foreigners.
Step 5: Check the results
The outcome of your application will be available on the day of the ranking list announcement in your OAS account. Check the “Applications” tab and see the result in the application summary table.
Possible outcomes:
- Qualified for admission: congratulations, your application was accepted—please read the information under the link “Documents and further steps” and proceed with the enrolment.
- Waiting list: you are not currently qualified as other candidates have achieved a higher score than yours. You may still be invited to enrol if someone currently qualified resigns. Please check your messages frequently.
- Not admitted: your application was rejected.
Step 6: Enrol
Enrolment is the procedure of confirmation of your intent to undertake studies. To complete enrolment, you will need to submit a set of documents—details are provided in the study card. The enrolment instructions will be available after the results are published in your OAS (IRK) account, under the “Documents and further steps” link in your application table.
Once your enrolment is completed, you should receive confirmation from the office responsible for your programme. At this point, you may also ask for a certificate confirming your enrolment (please note that certificates confirming holding the student status are issued after the academic year commences, i.e. 1 October). These inquiries should be directed to your programme office.
