Diamentowy Grant (Diamond Grant) programme announced yearly by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education is a competition for outstanding students who are capable of creating a valid research proposal, which is then financed on the basis of similar rules to ones governing financing research conducted by experienced scientists. This way they can try the life of head of a research project even during their magister level studies, which is an excellent source of experience in the academia as well as an opportunity to begin a project that may soon become their future doctoral dissertation.

From 1 October 2014 Diamentowy Grant grantees are eligible for undertaking doctoral (third-cycle) study programmes and registering for the doktor degree conferment procedure even though they do not yet have a magister title, while simultaneously receiving funding for their research.

Starting with admission to programmes beginning in 2015, students who are grantees of the Diamentowy Grant programme can take part in admission to doctoral programmes on the basis of the same rules that apply to graduates from magister programmes. A number of Jagiellonian University faculties decided on granting them special privileges in the admission process. Detailed information about those privileges can be found on the OAS website ( in respective study cards.
