You can familiarise yourself with the programmes offered in languages other than Polish here.
Please note that detailed information in English is available on the page of the programme you intend to apply to and in the IRK system at irk.uj.edu.pl.
If you have questions about the programme, we advise contacting the students' office (contact details are also available in the IRK).
Admission rules
Details about the expected content of the application and the specific admission rules for all programmes are available in the study programme cards in the IRK at irk.uj.edu.pl. Please make sure you read it thoroughly.
Information about the language requirements can be found on the website Knowledge of the language of instruction.
Additional formal requirement:
In the admission for some programmes, additional formal requirements may be specified. A candidate who does not fulfil the requirement cannot be accepted for studies, regardless of any other educational achievements.
Ensure that you have checked the formal requirements in the IRK system (if any) and that you will be able to meet them during the admission process.
First– and long-cycle programmes
Studies can be undertaken by people who hold a Polish Matura, an International Baccalaureate Diploma, a European Baccalaureate Diploma, a Polish Maturity Certificate or another secondary education document that entitles its holder to undertake first- or long-cycle studies in the country of issue.
Qualification criteria may include:
- grades or exam results on documents confirming eligibility to undertake first– or long-cycle studies;
- the interview conducted in English, verifying the candidate’s predisposition to undertake the studies programme;
- written exam that checks specific knowledge and skills according to the qualification criteria.
Attention: If you hold an international secondary education document, an EB diploma, or a Polish Maturity Certificate, and your grades are considered during admission, your results must be analysed, assigned to the Polish Matura subjects, and computed to match the 0–100 scale. You will be asked to upload scans of your documents to the IRK system during the submission of an application.
Second-cycle programmes
Studies can be undertaken by people who hold a diploma of higher education (at least Licencjat or equivalent) awarded in a field mentioned in the qualification criteria. A diploma obtained at a foreign university is equal to the documents issued in Poland, as long as it confirms the candidate’s eligibility to undertake the second-cycle programmes of study.
Each programme has its own qualification criteria, which may include:
- grade average or other grades from previous studies;
- an entrance exam or an interview checking specific skills and knowledge required to pursue the studies;
- a document analysis – assessment of the application content according to the qualification criteria.
Admission process step by step
Step 1: Create an IRK account
To submit your application, you must first create an IRK account at irk.uj.edu.pl.
As you create your account, please complete the forms regarding your personal data and your educational history. Please ensure that you enter a correct e-mail address and provide a valid phone number, as this will allow us to contact you if necessary.
Step 2: Submit your application
Find your programme of interest in the IRK by browsing the “Offer” tab. On the right side of the screen, locate the green “Sign up” button. When you click it, the system will check whether you have completed all the necessary forms, and if not, it will direct you to fill them out before proceeding.
When submitting an application, all candidates are asked to complete a form regarding their previous education. If you apply based on an EB diploma, an international secondary education document, or a Polish maturity certificate, you will be obliged to upload scanned copies of your documents with sworn translations at this stage.
Important: Application forms differ between programmes. In some application forms, you may need to upload additional documents supporting your application, such as a language certificate or documents required for the points assessment. You can check which fields will be needed in the application form in the study programme card in the IRK beforehand.
Step 3: Pay the application fee
Your application will only be assessed if you pay the application fee in your account by the date specified in the schedule and when it is booked in the University account.
Paying via Przelewy24 results in the fastest booking (within 15 minutes), but it requires a small fee on your part. You can also pay the fee by a wire transfer or a bank order. However, in such cases, please allow enough time for the booking of your fee, as it may take several days or (rarely) weeks.
You can check the status of your application payment in the “Applications” tab in your account—if the status of the application is “paid”, that means that the correct amount has been booked in the University account.
Step 4: Pass the exam
The exam is not required for all programmes. Please consult the study programme card in the IRK to check if you need to take an exam.
If the final result is calculated based on the exam or interview result—that means that you have to take the exam or interview for your application to be considered.
Step 5: Check the results
The outcome of your application will be available on the day of the ranking list announcement in your IRK account. Check the “Applications” tab and see the result in the application summary table.
Possible outcomes:
- Qualified for admission: congratulations, your application has been accepted—please read the information under the “Documents and further steps” link and proceed with the enrolment.
- Waiting list: you are not currently qualified as other candidates have achieved a higher score than yours. You may still be invited to enrol if someone currently qualified resigns. Please check your messages frequently.
- Not admitted: your application was rejected.
Step 6: Enrol
Enrolment is the procedure of confirmation of your intent to undertake studies. To complete enrolment, you will need to submit a set of documents—details are provided in the study card. The enrolment instructions will be available after the results are published in your IRK account, under the “Documents and further steps” link in your application table.
Once your enrolment is completed, you should receive confirmation from the office responsible for your programme. At this point, you may also ask for a certificate confirming your enrolment – these inquires should be directed to the Admission Office at rekrutacja@uj.edu.pl. Please note that certificates confirming the student's status are issued by the student's office after the academic year commences, i.e. 1 October).
